What were you afraid of as a child that seems silly to you now?

My grandfather's electric razor. He was a barber and used to cut my hair and I hated when he pulled out the "thing that buzzed". Now, I have one with me wherever I end up, and in grad school I used it to shave my head every two weeks.
How did you pick your Vox name? Does it mean something?

Books, movies, music; what's in your top 5 right now?
In the category of books, I'm currently relishing the granddaddy of philosophy's History of Western Philosophy. After reading Russell's landmark essay On Denoting in university, never again would I have thought I'd actually find any of his other works interesting to read. But HOWP is certainly worth it. For music, I have DJ Cheb I Sabbah's Shri Durga; very "trip-hoppy", very mysterious, very good. In movies, I don't have much yet, but I am watching Michael Palin's Himalaya: an excellent travelogue. He brings his humour to his travels, which is certainly refreshing. To round it off to 5, there's Soul of a New Machine by Tracy Kidder as well as Lonley Planet's Guatemala.
What's your favorite restaurant? For comfort food, Hakka food is the best, particularly, The Green Lettuce. For fine dining, Joe Fortes. For all other occasions, Havana on Commercial Drive. All in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
